DGD Consulting Ltd. was established in 1997 when its founder David Gregory left computer manufacturer International Computers Limited (ICL) to form his own IT consultancy. At ICL he had worked on the design and development of office systems, the forerunners of many of today’s internet core technologies.
In the late 70s and early 80s he worked on search engines for packages originally termed as “text retrieval" systems. These systems created libraries of documents. The search engine retrieved those documents from the libraries that contained the words or phrases specified in a question to the system. An early precursor of the service carried out by the internet search engines, Google , Yahoo etc.
Text retrieval systems were thirsty for electronically created text and a ready source was the newly emerging word-processor technology. These systems were stand-alone and so needed to be integrated. As a developer, David was heavily involved in the data storage and display of text and wrote code to handle mark-up languages similar to the html used by today’s web pages.
In the late 80s he moved on to Image Processing systems, where he used early PCs to capture scanned images and store them on optical discs. Development work included using image compression technology and the setting up and the tuning of local area networks. The size of image files far exceeded the size of other data transmitted over networks at that time. Developing these image systems required considerable collaboration work with the network communications development engineers.
He subsequently worked with a number of Blue Chip companies in project manager roles, including a 5 year contract with Sony Playstation working as the Change and Release Manager for their websites. During his time there he was responsible for the release of ecommerce and editorial style websites; Sony’s corporate intranet site, various mini sites and Flash developments; software download facilities and network gaming management. The London office was responsible for Europe and Australasia and sites were made available to 20 locations in 13 different languages.
This wealth of experience in software design, development and project management is now available to give your website the advantage you need to stand out from the crowd.
